FAQ

What sort of care do I need for my wooden handled brushes and razors?

Since water quality and hardness varies around the planet, I would strongly recommend using a food grade mineral oil or tung oil once a month on the wooden section of your product. Simply apply a thin coat and let it dry overnight. The next day, buff it gently with a clean terry cloth towel. By doing this, you will maintain & protect the luster and water resistance on the wood for years to come.

What is your product guarantee?

If my items fail to live up to your standards I will refund your money. Please refer to the "terms" link for more info.

I'm looking for a densely packed shaving brush, are your brushed packed dense?

Absolutely, the brushes I use are top quality, in fact, it took me over one year to find the right balance. I pay a premium for this badger material, if my brushes were any more densely packed they would be the next knot size. You also have to be careful about "overly dense" brushes, since they can take up moisture and ultimately expand in the handle which will lead to a cracked handle. With my brushes, this problem will never happen due to the engineering involved.

I would like a brush that is "resilient" not one with a soft "mop" effect. I want it to delicately exfoliate my skin before I shave.

The deflection rate of my badger hair brush bristles is in line with the top brush manufacturers. In fact, I have conclusive evidence of this since I tested my brushes against the competition. The test methodology was the same as toothbrush manufacturers use to determine deflection of the individual bristles VS the competition. I can assure you my brushes are not "lame & unresponsive" , they have spring and they do exfoliate your pre-shave skin gently.

Are your badger brushes really "top class" Silvertip and Superbadger?

I am interested in making the best, that's all. I went through great pains to locate the source of my badger. I pay a premium for the raw material since I only want the very best. I know I do not have a 100 year history, nor a Royal Warrant/Tradition of making shaving brushes, but know this: I put every ounce of my engineering skill and artisan effort to make the best possible product.

How durable are your brushes?

Very durable, in fact, with proper care they will last a lifetime. Everything from the badger material which is sourced at the peak of strength and durability to the handles is carefully engineered. Bottom line, if there is an unforeseen problem due to normal use I will fix it. I put my name on my work, it represents me and the best I have to offer.

So why doesn't the competition make innovative brushes?

Simple. They just are not set up to do it. You have to understand one thing, it is all about QUANTITY, they have a set production run and they stick with it. For them to do unique pieces like me would cost them more then the actual piece is worth. I'm not knocking the competition, they make an interesting product but don't forget, they are a company and their first priority is to make money! I am a company too, but my first priority is to make the best product.

Think about it: you will pay a premium for a good quality competitor's brush which the handle was injection molded or CNC lathe turned plastic rod (Manufacture time per piece: about 10-15 seconds, material cost: less then 2 cents), then the badger head is glued into the handle in an assembly line fashion (total production time: less then 2 minutes) and you have a new brush between $75-300 depending on the grade/size. Not a bad gig, huh?

Now with a Rakowski brush, there is no injection molding or CNC, it is ALL HANDMADE. My brushes and any other product I make is all handmade, there is not much you can do within a 2 minute span, right?

Why handmade? It's better, more personable. It's about you, the uniqueness, there is nobody like you on the planet, just like my product, each piece is unique! Don't settle for less.

So how do you rate your product VS the competition?

Good question, I will go head to head with ANY COMPANY IN THE WORLD. I'm "old school" I believe in action, not words. Any takers?

Do I make the best? I don't know, I don't dwell on this,

...but I will tell you this, I would not be wasting my efforts nor your time if my products did not meet the caliber of work that I am used to: The Best and nothing else!

Call or email me anytime. You will talk to me directly. I'm the person that will craft your next item. There is no receptionist here, I am an artisan at heart and I would be delighted to talk to you.

I have a custom design for you, what is the procedure?

For custom designs, I would recommend you sketching you desired item. I will work off it and perhaps add my own design element if you like. I will discuss the lead time and cost with you as well. Custom work is not as expensive as you think, costs center around complexity, materials, and design features such as inlays, carving & finish.
